Transit Ridership Up 61%

Friday, July 27, 2012 - 10:14 AM

Two years ago Castlegar doubled it's investment in public transit, and it is starting to pay off.

The City had a 61% increase in ridership over the past year, the largest out of any BC Transit System.  CAO John Malcolm says they're supporting public transit for a number of reasons.

He says reducing the carbon footprint, increasing safety and also accessibility for non-drivers are all worthy goals Council has been pushing.  Malcolm explains a lot of the increase is from students travelling to Selkirk College and more employees taking advantage of the service.
