Rachel Webber's Remains Found As Coroner's Role Ends

Friday, July 27, 2012 - 10:25 AM

Operations by the BC Coroners Service have ended at Johnson's Landing but the future of the mudslide site remains uncertain.

Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe, speaking following the recovery of the remains of 17 year old Rachel Webber, says they may be leaving but the area is very much a  "no go" zone.

Lapointe says home owners are not able to return to their residences and the Regional District is now responsible for the area. She says they'll be taking over security and determining when residents can go back.  She says crews were quote "very, very fortunate" not to have any safety incidents during the recovery of the three Webber victims.

Death certificates will now be issued , including for the family of Petra Frehse who's body remains under the massive debris field.  Meanwhile the RDCK is expected to announce soon plans for the area and to what degree any rehabilitation work is possible.
