NewsLocal Support For $10/day Plan
There's local support for the ten dollar a day plan proposed by the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC.
Valerie Warmington, the Executive Director of the Kootenay Kids Society, says local families are in desperate need of this kind of help.
Warmington says parents are paying anywhere from forty to fifty five dollars per day for child care - add that up over a month and it looks like a rent payment. As a result many families end up not putting their children into care because they can't afford it. Instead they're left on the system rather than contributing to it by working.
The ten dollar a day plan would cost taxpayers $1.5 billion. But, Warmington says that would benefit early childhood development and also encourage parents to re-enter the workforce faster and contribute to the economy. Most Viewed Stories
