NewsCivic Theatre Hopeful After Proposal Extension
The local society looking to retain Nelson's Civic Theatre as a movie house says a feasibility study and marketing drive will help determine their success.
Co-Chair Anne Degrace is speaking following the city's decision to grant a four-month window for work on their proposal to continue. She says they're confident the extra time will allow for a feasibility plan that will give the community confidence a non-profit cinema can work.
Degrace says initially the plan was to open one screen for second-run showings as soon as possible and then determine whether a second and third viewing area could be incorporated into the building.
Degrace admits securing memberships will be a bit of a "leap of faith" given the uncertainty surrounding the future of the building but says costs to members will be affordable.
