Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett is wading into the high water situation on the Kootenay River.

 

It's at the request of RDCK Chair John Kettle after the board expressed concern about discharges from Montana's Libby Dam. As a result Bennett says BC Hydro wrote this week to the US Army Engineer Corps which controls the dam. He says it's a good thing Hydro called to the attention of US authorities the imminent threat of flooding in some parts of our region. He believes the US entities that control their dam water are very aware of the current high snow melt situation and are doing everything they can to mitigate flooding. But he adds there's no harm in stating the case.

 

The letter asks the US to make every effort to limit flood damage on both sides of the border.
