A group in Nelson is proposing a new purpose for the under-used city greenhouses at Lakeside Park .

Lee Reid is the project manager of the "Seed" project which aims to produce fresh vegetables for people on low incomes and seniors.

She says the greenhouses are an ideal resource.

Reid says they aim to form a non-profit society that would see seniors and youth working side-by-side to cultivate nutritious food.

Vegetables would be sold to cover costs and also donated to the Food Cupboard or distributed by Nelson Cares Society.
