NewsSeed Greenhouse Project Has Council Backing

A Nelson city councillor is behind the movement by a local group to make more use of the city-owned greenhouses at Lakeside Park.
Organizers of the Seed project aim to harvest vegetables for local seniors and people on low incomes. Candace Batycki says there's plenty for her and the rest of council to like regarding food security, healthy eating and local sustainability.
Batycki figures the greenhouses are used only two months out of each year by city workers. She says a motion for the city to send a letter of support to help the group access grant funding will come up at the next meeting of council next week.
