MP Atamanenko Opposes Riding Reconfiguration
Our local MP is raising concerns about the possible reconfiguration of the BC Southern Interior Riding.
As part of its ten-yearly reconfiguration process the Federal Electoral Commission has made a recommendation to move the eastern areas of Nelson and Salmo and combine them with the Kootenay Columbia Riding.
Alex Atamanenko says taking Nelson away does not respect the long time political and community collaboration they have with Castlegar and Trail and he's also worried about a lack of access.
He says if the riding is split up and Nelson is no longer included, the MP may not have an office there, but instead in Cranbrook, Golden or Revelstoke.
Atamanenko says the Commission will arrange public feedback sessions later in the year.
