Castlegar RCMP Foil Break and Enter

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - 1:05 PM

A 35 year old Castlegar resident is facing several charges after an overnight break and enter.

RCMP were called to a business on Columbia Avenue at about 2am Tuesday morning where the man had gained access to the building.  The garage doors were severely damaged and the suspect had fled the scene before police arrived.

Officers arrested the suspect a short time later, but not without incident.  Corporal Deb Postnikoff says the man rode his bicycle at full speed towards an officer, ignoring commands to stop.  He then had to be knocked off of the bike before being taken to Trail hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was then released back into police custody.

The suspect is known to police and is expected to be in Nelson Court sometime on Tuesday.
