NewsJobless Rate Down In BC, Up In The Kootenays
BC gained almost 15000 jobs in August, but the good news did not extend to our region.
Stats Canada says the jobless rate for the Kootenays is actually up to 7.8%. The Unemployment Rate stood at 6.8% in July.
The latest figures are an improvement on last year when the August jobless rate was 9.5%.
Currently 6200 people are out of work in the Kootenays. Stats-Can does not offer a specific figure for the "West" Kootenay.
BC's Jobless Rate has dropped to 6.7%.
