Friday, September 14, 2012 - 1:13 PM

Veteran Trail city councillor Gord Derosa says Teck is stepping up by taking responsibility for past mistakes.

This in the wake of the company's admission that some level of hazardous materials were dumped into the Columbia River from 1896 to 1995. Derosa says it's encourging to see that major industry is taking some responsibility for mistakes they had no control over a hundred years ago.

Derosa sits on council's Environmental and Columbia River Committees.

Speaking to the long legal case brought against Teck by the Confederation of Colville Tribes Derosa says these things take time but he feels a faster resolution can be reached outside of court to satisfy the clean-up demands.
