Tuesday, September 18, 2012 - 2:17 PM

Greenwood officials are waiting to hear more about when Interior Health can perform testing for possible contamination of their water supply.

This in light of the total water use ban following an act of vandalism was discovered at the Greenwood reservoir Monday afternoon.

Mayor Nipper Kettle says it's not clear how long the total consumption ban with have to stay in place but admits it's a "terrible situaton". As of Tuesday residents were being advised not to use the water supply for anything and not even boiling it wouid be a safe option.

Kettle was in Grand Forks early Tuesday stocking up on bottled water supplies for emergency purposes. He says anyone needing emergency drinking water will be able to come along to city hall and collect some.

In the meantime he says RCMP have started an investigation into the act of vandalism which saw the lock on the reservoir cover smashed off.
