Boundary RCMP are investigating after a teenage girl was found with a gun shot wound in Grand Forks in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The 17 year old had phoned 911 and police responded to Canning Road, which is in a rural location on Highway 3 west of the city.
Staff Sgt Jim Harrison says they do not believe the shooting took place where the victim was found but he would not say if they're looking for a shooter or if the wound was self-inflicted. He does not believe there is an immediate threat to the community of Grand Forks.
The girl had sustained severe wounds from a single gun shot and was transported to Kelowna General via the Boundary Hospital.
She's reported to be in stable condition.
