Flood-related Evacuations At Crawford Bay
As the Flood Watch continues in our area some residents at Crawford Bay on the east shore of Kootenay Lake have been forced from their homes.
16 properties were ordered to evacuate Wednesday night after a failure of a dyke at Crawford Creek.
RDCK Emergency Operations spokesman Bill Mcpherson says a geo-technical team is assessing the damage to the ageing infrastructure which partially gave way from the sheer amount of water.
He says emergency plans for shelter were put in place Wednesday night but the evacuated residents stayed with family and friends. There is no word on property damage at this stage.
Meanwhile Highway 3A along the east shore east of Kootenay Bay is closed because of a wash out.
Mcpherson adds officials continue to keep a close eye on a low part of Slocan Valley West Road which could become cut off as the Slocan River rises.Residents there are under a local state of emergency.
